Values that Guide Our Work

Waugh Law & Mediation provides professional services that are strategically designed to prevent or resolve conflicts and improve relationships.  To that end, we have identified our core values that form the backbone of the work we do—every day.  While our practice continues to evolve as we learn more about conflict resolution, these values continue to guide our work.

·      Collaboration: We are ideally situated to be part of a collaborative team to address a conflict. The client knows more about their problem, the history, and the future. We know about tools and methods to move forward. We couple that with empathy and compassion in understanding the struggles that everyone is dealing with. To address disputes, we use transformative and narrative mediation processes, consensus-building strategies, and cooperative problem-solving.

·      Innovation: We work to learn more every day about how other fields, communities, and cultures address conflict and wrongdoing and find ways to incorporate that into the services we offer our clients. We value innovation and change and include innovation in providing legal services. Ongoing professional development helps us increase the nature and quality of our dispute resolution services.

·      Respect: Respect is a key value at Waugh Law & Mediation. We respect every client and their needs. We respect their choices and uphold the dignity and respect of all participants, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and heard.

·      Recognition of the value of Relationships: We recognize that parties often have previous relationships that have been important to them in legal conflict. We work to understand and value those relationships and help clients find ways to address their disputes while repairing any harm to the relationship caused by the conflict.

·      Equity and Accessibility: We value everyone having access to multiple methods of conflict resolution and create opportunities to expand that access regardless of economic circumstances, geographic limitations, or educational opportunities. We work to foster an inclusive environment that welcomes all individuals, regardless of age, gender, race, or background. We are working on expanding opportunities to multiple communities. Some of these effects are focused explicitly to better our communities beyond the scope of individual disputes.

·      Sustainability: We've worked to create sustainability in our practice, and we also work to promote long term solutions to contribute to the well being of clients and their communities, enduring long-lasting positive impacts.
